New Random Arena
Motivation: The random arenas is a hit or miss experience that tends to fall short. So Guild War's pick up and play gameplay is severely lacking.
Goal: To establish a pick up and play (no wasting time forming groups) PvP experience that emphasizes individual skill and achievement.
Ideas: Honestly I haven't fleshed out the ideas myself (probably why I'm not a game designer). So, I'm just going to throw ideas out there and hopefully they will mature in the forums.
- Set builds - this pretty much goes against a lot of principles that Guild Wars stands for (like character and build customization) but It is the only way I could think of balancing the game and emphasizing how each player plays.
A prophecies owner will have access to the warrior, ranger, mesmer, ele, necro, monk builds and a factions owner will have access to the assassin and rit builds.
- Character Statistics - keep track of achievements of each individual character (overall damage, # times evaded/blocked attacks, # skills/spells disrupted, kills, objectives completed)
- Fog of War - Only be able to see and target characters that are within a certain range of your character. TBH, this is probably the most radical idea here because it would probably require considerable changes to the engine, I think.
- Arena Gameplay - I have been throwing ideas about this in my head but they haven't landed on something concrete. It could land on the kind of gameplay that exists in the random arenas but I would like something a little more dynamic with more emphasis on individual play (so people can break off from the group and do some side objectives and contribute differently)
Finishing thoughts: There is a lot to do here in terms of how the gameplay here will work.
There is no denying that this kind of gameplay experience is unlike anything that Guild Wars has seen in PvP play but I tried to come up with a solution that accomplished the goal stated above.
I also thank anyone that has read this far I tried to make it as to the point and readable as possible.
